VBS programs can be resource-intensive, and gathering supplies can be daunting. But God called us to live in community, and the benefits of living that way are vast—not the least of which is having a community available as you work to bring your VBS to fruition. It is a blessing to give, so let your community help!

Here are some communities and ways they can help:

Church Community

  • Cash donations—This is an appropriate group to ask for cash donations; they are part of the body, and those who can are usually happy to help.
  • Specific supply donations—Use a free online tool to share specific supply needs (include links to specific items), including store-bought items.
  • Home supplies—If you need a large quantity of a home goods item or craft supply, this is a great community to ask for items such as toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, empty boxes, and empty soup cans. Don’t be afraid to share seemingly random requests: wood scraps, leftover paint, potting soil—you never know what someone might have and be willing to share.

Local Community

  • Gift cards and coupons—Some stores and restaurants are happy to contribute gift cards or coupons (such as “kids eat free”) to use as prizes.
  • Boxes and shipping supplies—Some stores will gladly let you take their used boxes or shipping supplies off their hands.

Online Community

The online community is a great place to go for ideas—how to use everyday items as decorations, where to find affordable supplies and how to use them, etc. The Answers VBS community can be found at the following locations:
