VBS is usually an outreach to children ages 2–12, sharing the message of the gospel and the truth of God’s Word with them. But VBS can also be an opportunity to take it a step further and reach adults and teens with solid Bible teaching and times of discussion.
It’s a great way to help the whole family learn about the Bible and engage those who currently aren’t attending your church.
An “adult VBS” can take place before VBS begins with teaching for your teen and adult VBS volunteers to equip them to answer kids’ questions and better serve during VBS week. Or you can plan an outreach for the parents of the children who are attending the program during VBS week. It’s a great way to help the whole family learn about the Bible and engage those who currently aren’t attending your church. You might form some relationships with parents that will last past the week of VBS!
The theme for our 2022 Answers VBS is Zoomerang: Returning to the Value of Life—a pro-life VBS! What a wonderful topic for the entire family to be diving into together. It’s a great way to spark discussions about the value of life and share the gospel with parents.
But how can you adapt children’s VBS materials for adults and teens? Easy—you don’t have to! We’ve already written the materials for you! Each Zoomerang Teen/Adult Leader Guide features a daily lesson that follows the teaching the children are receiving but at more depth, and also includes five teaching videos from Answers in Genesis speakers, along with discussion questions. This means the entire family will be discovering the sanctity of life together.
