CHF: Helping Sudanese Refugees in Christ’s Name

We’re excited that through Answers VBS we can partner with Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF). During our Mission Moment, kids learn about the work CHF is doing around the world, providing for the physical needs of families while sharing the good news of the gospel. It encourages kids to be generous, to think of others, and to understand the importance of sharing the gospel while meeting physical needs.

The money these children raise during VBS goes to help people like James, a Sudanese refugee living in Kenya who rescues refugee orphans and widows.

Living in Kenya as a Sudanese refugee, James became an interpreter for a local Kenyan pastor who would cross the border into Southern Sudan to train pastors. While crossing borders between Kenya and Southern Sudan, he began helping orphaned children and some widowed mothers who were refugees. James would bring them one by one across the border to a home that his family has in a remote village of Kenya.

The number of refugee children increased with every step he took across the border. James brought them to a safe place where they could eat, sleep, and hear about the love Jesus has for them. The children became joyful again; they love to sing, dance, and recite scripture for any visitor that comes to their home.

James, his wife, and their three children have generously opened their home and lives. A very humble man, James gives all of the glory to God who rescued him and also these orphans. Among his greatest needs in caring for these children is the simple provision of food. He receives three Children's Hunger Fund Food Paks per month, and each Food Pak provides up to 48 meals. He hopes to build a sustainable ministry that will continue to provide for Sudanese refugees well into the future.

Please remember James, his wife, and their three children as they continue to protect these orphans and bring them to a place they can call home.

CHF also works right here in the United States, combatting hunger in low-income families. This summer, they will be providing meals to children who would otherwise go to bed hungry. With each meal, for only a quarter, children hear about the hope they can have in Jesus. Watch this video to learn more:
