Most Bible-carrying, church-attending, praise-singing people agree that a Christian worldview includes belief in creation, biblical marriage, the sanctity of human life, and biblical inerrancy—to name just a few major tenets.
Yet anyone who calls himself a Christian has opinions, and those opinions are the result of his personal beliefs as they relate to the world around him: his worldview. So every Christian has a “personalized” Christian worldview, molded every day from toddlerhood and influenced by everything and everyone from parents to peers to all forms of media.
But a personalized Christian worldview is only as good and stable as the foundation upon which it’s built. Unless a Christian’s worldview is built upon the Bible—as the ultimate authority on all matters pertaining to life and godliness—a “compromised” Christian worldview quickly seeps in, influenced by the secular world. This can be extremely dangerous. Worldview is primarily shaped either by the Bible or the culture.
It matters!
Today hundreds, possibly thousands, of so-called Christian colleges and Christian publishers and Christian television programs are not truly Bible-based. The Bible is not their foundation and ultimate authority.
Sure, for fundraising or other reasons, they may claim to believe in creation, marriage, and the sanctity of human life. But scratch below the surface, dig deeper, and you will see that, in many cases, by creation they mean some form of evolution. Their view of marriage isn’t limited to the kind described in the Bible (between one man and one woman). And when it comes to whether or not an unborn baby is human, it all depends on how Planned Parenthood or other abortion providers define that concept—a definition which increasingly means that the being developing in the mother’s body isn’t a human from fertilization. It’s not officially human until delivery. (Until then, abortion—by whatever means required, even such doctor-performed services as skull crushing and dismemberment—is not only an option, but an endorsed choice.)
