Hi! Welcome back to the Kids Answers magazine blog, where we answer your big questions about God’s Word and God’s world.
Kay asked,
“Did God make dinosaurs?”
Thanks for your question, Kay!
In Genesis, the first book of the Bible, we read that God created all land animals—including dinosaurs—on day six of creation about 6,000 years ago.
Genesis also teaches that God made all animals (and the first humans) to be vegetarians (Genesis 1:29–30). There were no meat eaters—not even dinosaurs. But after Adam and Eve rebelled against God, animals began hunting each other for food.
When God sent the global flood to destroy the world, he saved two of every kind of land animal (including dinosaurs) on the ark and seven (or seven pairs of every clean animal and winged creatures). The world was very different after the flood. There was more competition for food, and many habitats were destroyed. Eventually, many species of animals died out, including the group of animals we now call dinosaurs.
