Our loving Creator God is very sad when people disobey Him because He wants what is best for them always. When we disobey Him, we are really telling Him we don’t want His best for us.
And God was very sad when the people of Noah’s time were sinning and doing evil things. God is love, but God is also holy, which means He is perfect. And because He is also just, He must punish sin. In the beginning, He said that the punishment for sin is death (Genesis 2:17)—eternal separation from His goodness forever. And during Noah’s time, He said that the punishment for the sin of the people would be death through a worldwide Flood.
God is also gracious, which means He gives us what we don’t deserve. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord (Genesis 6:8). God was gracious to Noah (and his family) and told him how to escape the coming Flood: build a large boat (an ark).
With God’s help, Noah obeyed his Creator and began to build the Ark.
