Hi, kids! My name is Tox—that’s short for the word toxic—and I’m a poison dart frog. I might be cute, but my poison can be deadly.
Poison dart frogs live in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. Scientists think we get our poison from the foods we eat. This toxin can be deadly! When other animals see my bright colors, they see them as a warning to stay away. But when you see my colors, you can be reminded of the second and third C’s of history. My dark color represents sin (Corruption), and my blue color represents the waters of the global flood (Catastrophe).
Corruption happened when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. The consequences of their sin affected everyone and everything—even us frogs. Before Adam and Eve sinned, there was no sickness, suffering, or death in the world. People and animals ate only plants. But now, danger and death are part of our fallen world. We poison dart frogs produce toxins to help protect ourselves from predators.
After sin entered the world, people became so wicked that God had to send a worldwide flood to judge their sin—this was the Catastrophe. But the Bible says that, just like Adam and Eve, we all sin. Psalm 14:3 tells us, “They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.” We have all turned away from God, and no one does good.
The global flood killed all the land-dwelling, air-breathing animals and people on earth. But in his mercy, God saved Noah, his family, and the animals on the ark. Some of my kind, the dart frog animal kind, would have been on Noah’s ark.
After the flood was over, God put a rainbow in the sky to remind people that he would never flood the entire earth again. Now, when you see a rainbow in the sky, remember that God can be trusted, and he always keeps his promises!
