Ellyn

Hi! My name is Ellyn. I am ten years old. I live during the time of the Middle Ages. I have two brothers, ages eleven and seven. We live outside the castle, but inside the walls of the village. The walls were built to protect the townspeople from bandits, wild animals, and enemy knights. We can see the castle but we rarely get to go inside. We are just town people but we feel very blessed to have our own shop.

Interests

My parents own a shop that sells fabric. I help in the shop by cutting the fabric. We live above the shop, so at night we do not have far to go when we close the shop. We make dye for the fabric from plants, bark, and roots.

I have a little doll I made from some of the scraps of fabric. Her name is Betty, and I can make her new clothes whenever I find little scraps of fabric. I also have a top made from wood that I share with my brothers, and a set of blocks carved from wood.

Special Weapon

All boys in the town learn archery. My older brother Brom has a longbow and he practices with the other boys in town every day. I used to go out and watch Brom and the other boys shoot their arrows. Finally I asked if I could shoot his bow. Brom saw how much I liked it and he made me my own bow and arrows. Now I shoot almost every day and can hit the target better than most of the boys!

Fears

One of the reasons I learned archery was because deep inside I am afraid of many things. I get afraid when I go outside the walls of the village. Outside the walls there is no protection. I always take my bow and arrows with me. I sometimes wonder about the evil in the world. If God is good, why isn’t everyone good? Why are there animals that would eat me? Once a traveler came into the village and said he had seen a dragon. I am afraid of dragons! I pray to God to help me with my fears. Praying really helps me not be afraid.

God wants us to fight evil and stand for truth. The Bible says that Satan is the father of lies, and that there is evil in the world because of sin. Here are some things you can read to answer questions that I had:
