Hi, my name is Bryce! I am nine years old and live during the Middle Ages, the time of castles and knights and dragons and armor and horses and maidens. Doesn’t that sound like fun? But it is also hard work! I live in the castle, and I am training to be a knight.
I serve the king! One day I will fight in his army and protect him from his enemies. I have to learn how to joust, handle a sword, ride a horse, and even use a lance (which is like a spear). And of course, I have to learn how to put on my armor. It takes lots of practice to ride a horse with my armor on!
I serve the king of our castle, but last year I also learned about serving the one true King, Jesus Christ. You can learn how I received the true King, Jesus Christ, as my Savior and became His child.
There is another battle going on in the world. It is the battle for truth. I want to stand strong in the battle for truth, and God has given me armor for that battle that I must put on every day. This spiritual armor is a lot like my armor as a knight! There is the helmet of salvation, the belt of truth, special shoes, and the breastplate of righteousness. My Knight’s shield has a special emblem on the front that shows I serve the king of the castle, and God has given me a shield of faith.
My special weapon that I always keep with me is my sword. I even have it next to me when I sleep. You never know when enemies will attack, so I must always be ready. God has given me the Sword of the Spirit.
I have my own horse, and we are great friends. I named him Fearless so I will remember to be brave when I go into battle. He has to learn not to be afraid when he is in battle or run away when an enemy is shooting at him. He has armor too! He has metal plates to cover his neck, head, and sides.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:11–17)
