Summary: Through the prophets, God had warned the people and the kings of Judah that they must turn away from their sin and return to Him. But they would not listen. And because of their disobedience against God, the city of Jerusalem was burned, Solomon’s Temple was destroyed, and the people were taken away. Jeremiah is known as the “weeping prophet.” The destruction he saw in Judah broke his heart. The book of Lamentations was written out of the grief he felt as he witnessed the punishment God brought to His people.
About God: God will punish sin, but He is always compassionate, forgiving, and loving. He will forgive those who humbly come to Him.
