Summary: This very brief letter from John addressed two issues in the early church. First, encouragement was given for loving care and hospitality to Christians in need. Second, John criticized a man who had turned from the truth and was exhibiting wicked talk and a lack of loving hospitality to other believers. John’s message goes on to say that believers are not to imitate evil but good, and that whoever does good is from God. But those who do not do good are not from God.
