Kay asks

Did God make dinosaurs?

In Genesis, we read that God created everything during creation week about 6,000 years ago. Dinosaurs, a group of reptiles that lived on land, were created on day six with other land animals.

When God sent the global flood to destroy the sinful world, he saved two of every kind of land creature (including dinosaurs) and seven pairs of some animals on the ark. The world was very different after the flood. There was limited food, the climate was much harsher, and many habitats were destroyed. Eventually, many animals died out, including the group of animals we now call dinosaurs.

Violet asks

Why do feet fall asleep?

God designed humans with nerves that run through our bodies. Nerves are like little wires that carry messages between our body parts and brain.

When you sit in one position for too long (especially if you sit on your foot), you compress, or crush, the nerves. When this happens, the connection between your brain and your foot is temporarily cut off, meaning the nerves can’t send messages to your brain. This causes you to not feel your foot.

When you stand, the nerves are no longer compressed so the messages begin flowing between your foot and your brain again. As your nerves fire back up, your foot might feel tingly. No need to worry! After a few moments, your foot will feel normal.

Ava asks

If God is good and wants everyone to be good like him, then why did he make evil?

When God finished creating the world on day six of creation week, everything was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). But when Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating the fruit he told them not to eat, sin entered the world.

Sin has left us with hate, sickness, and death. All the evil in the world comes from that original sin. God did not make evil—evil is rebellion against his good design for this world.

Imagine that one day you create a painting. It is beautiful, and you are very proud of it. Then your dog steps on your painting, tearing the canvas. Can you still see the beautiful painting that you created? Yes, but it is ripped. The tear shows that your painting is broken. The torn canvas goes against your good design.

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they stepped on God’s canvas. And because we are all descendants of Adam and Eve, we also sin against God.

The good news is that God does not want us to stay broken. That is why his Son, Jesus, came to earth to die for our sin. Because our sin separates us from God, it is only through Jesus’ death and resurrection that our sins can be erased.

So yes, God does want everyone to be good (or righteous), but we can only be righteous by trusting in his Son. Jesus promised that he would come back again and make “all things new” (Revelation 21:5). Someday, all the hurt, pain, and evil will end. God will make everything the way it is supposed to be!

Arthur asks

What is nuclear fission?

God made this world with lots of tiny particles called atoms. Atoms make up everything: trees, oceans, even your hands! Atoms are so small that we cannot see them. Atoms are built with even smaller parts called protons, electrons, and neutrons.

Nuclear fission happens when an atom is hit with a neutron and breaks into two or more smaller atoms. When atoms break apart, they release more neutrons and lots of energy.

Scientists have figured out how to use the energy created by nuclear fission for both good and harmful purposes. For example, nuclear fission can be used to power homes and businesses. But scientists have also learned how to use nuclear fission to create weapons, like nuclear bombs, which can cause a lot of death and suffering.

Our creative God designed the world with intricate details, like tiny atoms, for us to discover. We bring glory to God when we wisely use the resources that he has given us.
