Dog Days: Adjusting ABC for Irregular Summer Sunday School

by Avery Foley on May 8, 2019

Many churches choose to take a break from Sunday school during the summer due to special programs or the typical drop-in attendees as families travel and vacation. Will Answers Bible Curriculum work for you if your church does this? Absolutely!

In ABC, our lessons are merely sequential. They don’t correlate with any dates or seasons.

In ABC, our lessons are merely sequential. They don’t correlate with any dates or seasons. We did this purposefully, allowing you to start and stop with ease. Taking an eight-week break over the summer? Simply stop on your planned date and pick back up eight weeks later, maybe with an extra bit of review, where you left off.

If you’re looking for a special study to do over the summer break, consider one of these ideas:

  • Answers in Genesis’ Foundations curriculum kit (for adults or teens).
  • Demolishing Strongholds (for teenagers).
  • Answers for Kids (for children).
  • Is Genesis History? (for adults or teens).
  • Use our Books of the Bible flashcards to learn the names of the books of the Bible and study the context of the book and the author.
  • Study missionaries throughout history, ending with missionaries your church supports.
  • Review Bible verses by playing games you’ve skipped and doing some of the optional activities.
  • Focus on the Answers Bible Curriculum posters (e.g., the timelines or the 10 commandments).

If you choose to pause from your regular ABC lessons for Christmas, Easter, or Thanksgiving, we’ve written special seasonal lessons you can use for all ages. Simply pause ABC, celebrate the holiday with unique, themed teaching, and pick back up where you left off in the regular lesson sequence. These seasonal lessons are free and available for download.
