Dragons . . . Just a Myth?

Fire-breathing, gold-hoarding dragons are the stuff of fantasy stories, legends, and children’s books. But were these creatures just myths, or do they reflect the exaggerated memory of a time in history when people and these “dragons” lived with one another?

Dragons appear over and over again in legends around the world and even in art and pottery. Many of these creatures share similar features, and similar elements pop up in various legends. The biblical worldview actually makes sense of this!

The description and depiction of certain dragons actually sounds quite similar to what we know of various types of dinosaurs. Now, in the evolutionary worldview, dinosaurs died out millions of years before man evolved, so of course, dinosaurs and man never lived together. But in the biblical worldview, all animal kinds—including those we call dinosaurs today—and mankind were created on the same day of creation week (day six) and therefore lived together. It wasn’t until after the flood that dinosaurs began to die out. Dragon legends are likely the distorted, faded, or exaggerated memory of a time when humans and dinosaurs interacted with one another.

AiG’s Bodie Hodge and Rob Webb recently recorded an episode of their show, Off the Cuff, on this very issue. I encourage you to check it out on our growing YouTube channel (and be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss another video).

To learn even more, I encourage you to check out Bodie’s new book, Dinosaurs, Dragons, and the Bible.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
