Am I the only one that isn’t entirely comfortable extolling the mercy and goodness of God in the story of Job? There might not be a better story in the Bible illustrating God’s complete lack of compassion than the story of Job. The moral of the story isn’t that God is good; it’s that God is mighty, and there is no one above him who can hold him accountable.

The book of Job does show God’s might and sovereignty, but his might and sovereignty are never absent from his other attributes, including his compassion and goodness (Psalm 145:8, 102:27; Malachi 3:6). No account in all of Scripture illustrates a lack of God’s compassion since God’s character is always present and unchanging. Proper hermeneutics involves studying all Scripture in its full context rather than isolated passages or books.
But God’s compassion and mercy are present in this book, such as when he limited Satan’s abilities (Job 2:6), when he vindicated Job from his friends’ accusations (Job 42:7), and when he mercifully gave Job twice as much as he had before (Job 42:10–17).
It can be difficult for our human, fallen minds to comprehend God’s character and his ways, but we walk in faith of what he tells us about himself in the entirety of his Word.
We adopted our son, Jayden, in August 2023 and began homeschooling him shortly thereafter. We include Kids Answers magazine during our homeschool lessons. We all have learned a lot of interesting facts! We appreciate all that your organization does.

I wanted to write a letter of encouragement, also of appreciation and thanks. I recently began teaching the adult Sunday class in the church I attend. Having all the articles of Answers has really helped me in my lessons. Nonsecular, scientific, theological articles based on God’s Word with ways to refute the false evolutionary claim have been a tremendous help! I have also learned new things that have further strengthened my relationship with Jesus Christ! For this I extend my utmost gratitude! Please continue the fantastic work of sharing the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Thank you all for all the work you do so that we can check the mail and see an Answers magazine laying there! It brings our whole family joy! I want to thank you for the amazing articles you work so hard to write. We really appreciate having a godly and biblical worldview all through the magazine. I especially love the This and That section. I want to comment on “Making a Statement of Faith” (January–March 2024). This article inspired me to start writing my own statement of faith. And while it’s not done yet, I hope when I am finished it will shine with the truth of the Lord.

I’m a 78-year-old retired biology teacher that taught in a public high school in the ’70s. At that time, there was no problem in my school referring to the Creator or how something was created. But I wish I had all the resources that are available from you today. Just wanted to tell you we greatly appreciate all the Answers in Genesis ministries, from the excellent magazine to the two attractions.
