In God We Trust

In God We Trust takes a deeper look at living a truly God-focused life. You’ll learn not only to defend your faith according to the authority of God’s Word, but also to live it out in every part of life.

Today’s big question: how does the doctrine of inspiration affect my life today?

As Steve Ham has pointed out in the past several devotionals regarding inspiration, we can have full assurance that the Bible is the Word of God. With that concept in mind, we may wonder, “What’s the big deal? Why does inspiration even matter?” The beauty of this doctrine is that when we understand the Bible to be the Word of God over all creation we can confidently trust it as our guidebook to navigate the paths of life.

The doctrine of sufficiency, which is closely related to the doctrine of inspiration, states that the Bible is complete and gives us everything we need to live the life that God has created for us. He has given us everything we need in His very own words.

As I am writing this, I gaze out the window and see the Cincinnati riverfront at the edge of the Ohio River. From where I’m sitting, I can see construction crews hard at work building yet another skyscraper, which is going to be, perhaps, the most impressive monument in downtown Cincinnati to date. As I look at this huge building being erected, I know very clearly that these workers must have a detailed and elaborate plan for what they are building. Imagine what it would be like if they built without any reference to the plans? What a mess that would be!

God has given us a blueprint for how we are to construct our lives; He has left out no necessary details. But unfortunately, many people attempt to build their lives without using this God-given plan. God provides us with everything we need to live a godly life as He states in 2 Peter 1:3, and the key to finding that plan is to spend regular time immersed in His perfect, inspired Word.

Today’s big idea: God’s inspired Word gives us the ultimate blueprint for how we are to build our lives.

What to pray: ask God to guide you through His Word and to help you to understand His blueprint for your life.
