Each year at the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum northern Kentucky, the schedule is packed with music performances, animal shows, special lectures and major conferences. More events have been added for 2024—here’s a sampling below of what’s in store this month and the rest of the year.
According to Discover Wildlife, it’s been the most popular Instagram animal and has been featured in animated films: the remarkable sloth. Felix, a Hoffmann’s two-toed sloth, will be highlighted at the Ark Encounter starting Monday with a new up-close-and-personal “Sloth Experience” program. During the private session in the Ark’s Ararat Ridge Zoo, a limited number of guests will chat with one of the sloth trainers and learn about the creature’s care, enrichment and training.
Guests ages 6 and up will enjoy interacting with these remarkably designed creatures and have the opportunity to enter the sloth habitat.
Guests ages 6 and up will enjoy interacting with one of these remarkably designed creatures and have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enter the sloth habitat. Visitors can feed Felix and take photos with him as well as learn about the sloth “created kind” and touch fossils from extinct giant ground sloths. Trainers will also answer a question posed by many Ark Encounter guests: “How did the slow-moving sloth get to the Ark of Noah?”
The “Sloth Experience” premieres March 11 in the growing Ararat Ridge Zoo behind the massive ship. A separate, timed ticket is required, and it’s suggested that it be purchased on-line before arrival. (Based on availability; tickets are limited.) Visit the “Sloth Experience” website or watch a video of Felix here:
Ararat Zoo Director Leanne Sarkisian notes: “We are so excited to share up-close encounters with Felix. Our team has worked tirelessly to launch this unique experience for our guests. And it benefits an international humanitarian organization—you see, portions of the proceeds from the experience will be donated to the charity Samaritan’s Purse as it works to help needy people in Latin America, the native range of sloths.”
On Easter weekend later this month (March 29-30), a special living history program is coming to the Ark’s sister attraction, the Creation Museum. Guests will see various museum staff wearing accurately recreated costumes as they give details on the historical background of Easter, Passover and the Resurrection of Christ. It’s a free event with museum admission.
The big event of the year starts in late July with the largest Christian music festival in the world. “Forty Days and Forty Nights of Christian Music” will feature top artists from different genres of music and will include popular groups such as Cain, Casting Crowns, Crowder, the Isaacs and dozens of award-winning groups.
Ken Ham, founder of the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum, declares: “There’s something for everyone at 40/40. Each year I enjoy all the kinds of music. And to think that these concerts—and there are dozens of them—are included with general admission makes 40/40 even more special. Of course, our guests will also tour the life-size Noah’s Ark and growing zoo.”
From July 30 through September 7, 40 days of concerts will be held in the large Answers Center auditorium at the Ark Encounter, located right off I-75 in Williamstown and south of Cincinnati. In addition, many 40/40 concerts will take place Wednesday and Thursday mornings at the Creation Museum, 45 minutes away in Petersburg, Ky.
Entrance to the concerts is included with an Ark and/or Creation Museum ticket. Last year, many people bought an annual “bouncer pass” to the Ark and Creation Museum so they could come to all or as many of the concerts as they wanted. For more information, visit 40DaysofChristianMusic.com.
Throughout 2024, several other major events will take place at the two attractions.
