Hi! Welcome back to the Kids Answers magazine blog, where we answer your big questions about God’s Word and God’s world.
Hannah (age 9) asked, “Where did God come from?”
That’s a great question, Hannah. Though lots of people wonder who created God or where God came from, we can see from several verses in the Bible that God has always existed. He did not have a beginning.
We learn about God’s eternal nature from the very first verse in Genesis: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” God’s Word starts with God. This means that God existed before he created anything.
The author of Psalm 90:2 writes, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” The word everlasting means no beginning or end. This Psalm is saying that before God made the mountains or formed the world, he was there.
Since humans, animals, and everything in our world had a beginning, it can be hard to understand God’s everlasting nature. This is why we must believe that God’s Word is true, even if we don’t fully understand everything about God.
