Hi! Welcome back to the Kids Answers magazine blog, where we answer your big questions about God’s Word and God’s world.
Arianna (grade 5) asked,
“What is the Milky Way?”
Thanks for your question!
The Milky Way is the name of the galaxy that our earth and the sun are part of. It is a huge collection of spiral arms made up of stars, dust, and gas. Galaxies are held together by gravity.
There are many different galaxies in the universe that are different sizes and shapes. The galaxies can be classified as elliptical (round or oval shaped), lenticular (shaped like a lens), spiral (like the Milky Way), or irregular (unusually shaped).
Evolutionists believe the Milky Way was formed from a spinning and collapsing cloud of gas and dust. But we read in the Bible that God created everything during creation week about 6,000 years ago, including all the stars and planets in our galaxy, the Milky Way.
