Welcome back, Dinosaur Explorers! This month we’ll be keeping things short and simple.
Did you know that there are hidden dinosaurs and references to dinosaurs at both the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter? Some of them are so hidden you’d HAVE to be looking for them in order to spot them. We’re going to look at a couple of these hidden treasures at both the Ark and the museum, and then we’ll wrap up with some exciting new additions!
Let’s start with the Creation Museum. If you’ve visited this awesome attraction, there’s a good chance that you ate at Noah’s Café. Did you know that there are animal tracks in the café floor? And if you look closely, you may just spot the footprints of a mid-size theropod dinosaur! Though the identity of whoever left these tracks is unknown . . .
Next, we fly over to the Stargazer’s Planetarium. This room is truly out of this world! But did you know that there are dinosaurs in here too? If you’ve ever been to our planetarium, you may have noticed the many metal panels along the walls. Well, directly behind the projector in the front of the room are six unique panels. Each one of these panels represents one of the creation days. And on the sixth one in the line, you’ll not only find a man and a woman (representing Adam and Eve), but you’ll find two sauropod dinosaurs. If you remember, dinosaurs are land animals and therefore they would have been created on the sixth day of creation (Genesis 1:24–25).
Down at the Ark Encounter, you can find lots of dinosaurs all throughout the Ark. One of these is very small, but you have to walk past it in order to enter the massive ship. When you first come into the Ark, you’ll see a large wooden carving with lots of animals on it. One of these animals is a sauropod dinosaur, and it looks very similar to Salty the Saltasaurus found in front of the Creation Museum.
Up on the third deck in the living quarters, you’ll find lots of neat things. This includes a chameleon drinking out of a bowl, Noah releasing a dove, and even a map of what the preflood world may have looked like. If you’re not looking too closely, you’ll probably miss the two small dinosaurs on this map. In the bottom left corner of this map is a small juvenile tyrannosaur, similar to the juvenile T. rexes found down on deck two. Opposite of this, on the bottom right corner is a drawing of a spinosaur, likely Baryonyx, considering there are two juvenile Baryonyx down on deck two.
As we wrap up here, check out this new artwork in Noah’s Café of a pair of Brachiosauruses!
Along with that, the Mobility Services building at the Creation Museum has a new sign, sporting two Allosauruses, one of which is an adult and the other is a juvenile. Pretty cool, right?
Now some of you, if you’ve been to the Creation Museum, may remember the wall of dinosaur stamps just off Palm Plaza. Last year, these were removed as the plaza and the adjoining hallway were remodeled. Just recently however, this exhibit was revised and is now on display in the lower level of the Answers Center at the Ark. This exhibit displays hundreds of postage stamps from all around the world—stamps of dinosaurs and other extinct creatures including sharks, pterosaurs, and marine reptiles. Make sure to check out this neat collection on your next visit to the Ark Encounter!
There are so many hidden dinosaurs at both the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter, but I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at a few of them!
