Today at The Incredible Race, we’re learning about the continent of North America. Point to the map. There are 23 countries in North America, including Canada, Mexico, the United States, Haiti, and Jamaica. Believe it or not, according to the Joshua Project, there are 153 groups of people who have not heard about the good news that Jesus came to save them from their sins. Those groups have over 12 million people in them! That’s a lot of people who need to hear the gospel! Read 1 Chronicles 16:23–24.
Our Bible lesson for today is about the Good Samaritan, a man who helped another person even though that person was from a different people group than the Samaritan. Because God is love, he wants us to love others. We need to show God’s love to all people, no matter where they live or what they look like. And we need to go into all the world and tell people about their Creator who loved them enough to take the penalty for their sins through his death and resurrection.
Some people share God’s love by becoming doctors and taking medical help to people who need to hear about Jesus. They use their skills with medicine to bring physical healing to people and they also share the gospel with them, bringing spiritual healing to them, too.
The Good Samaritan helped to bandage his neighbor’s wounds. Today, we’re going to do an experiment with adhesive bandages to find out which one has the strongest adhesive.
Pass out the adhesive bandages to each group. You can either have the children put the bandages on the eggs (1 per egg) or they can each take a set of bandages and put them on their own hands, or each group can elect one per group to be the tester and use their hands for the experiment. Write down which bandage went on which egg or hand. Submerse the egg or hand in the bowl of warm (not hot!) water. Start a timer to see how long it takes before the bandages fall off. Record each time beside the bandage on the paper. Repeat the experiment with the room-temperature water. Is there any difference? Which bandages seem to stay on the longest?
Pass out the Babel Legend cards, 1 per child.
