We love hearing from our young readers!
One of our readers, Hope, recently asked us,
“Why did God make Adam and Eve if God knew that they would sin?”
That’s a great question, Hope.
You’re right that God knew Adam and Eve would sin even before he created them—even before the universe was created. The Bible tells us that God knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:8–10). Throughout Scripture, we see how God is all-knowing (see “other verses to read”). He created and oversees all things according to his plan.
God created Adam and Eve for fellowship with him and for his glory, but he gave them a choice—obey and live in fellowship with him or disobey him by eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
God knew that Adam and Eve would rebel, and humans would sin against him. But, in his wisdom and love, God had also already prepared a plan to save us before Adam and Eve sinned.
God the Father “so loved the world, that he gave his only Son” (John 3:16a). Jesus stepped into history, was born as a baby, died on the cross, and was raised from the dead “that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16b).
Even though God knew that humans would sin before he created us, he also knew that by allowing it to happen, he could show us how much he loved us. And even though our relationship with him was once broken by sin, it can be restored through Jesus Christ.
So, like Adam and Eve, we still have a choice to make today—will we choose to disobey and reject God or choose to enjoy fellowship with him through Jesus?
