Is there any food in heaven? Do we eat in heaven?
Thank you,
– Jonathan, New York
That is a great question, Jonathan. We can learn many interesting facts about heaven by reading the Bible! In Revelation 21–22, the apostle John describes New Jerusalem coming down from heaven to the earth.
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband . . . And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. Revelation 21:1–2, 22:1–2
We know from these verses that there will be fruit and water in heaven at some point, since New Jerusalem will come down to earth out of heaven. The water of life will be available for drinking (Revelation 22:17). We can also infer from Luke 16:22–26 that there will be water to drink in heaven. The tree of life not only produces 12 kinds of fruit that can be eaten, but its leaves can also be used for healing.
It’s fun to think about the new heaven and new earth, and the many wonders that will be there. The Bible says the tree of life will be available to those who are inside the new Jerusalem (Revelation 22:14). Water from the river of life will also be freely given to those in the city.
And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. Revelation 22:17
Jonathan, do you know how you can spend eternity with God and enjoy drinking the pure water from the river of life? Jesus has provided the way!
We all sin and do things that are bad. We deserve the consequence of sin, which is punishment. Sin separates us from God, and there is nothing that we can do on our own to fix our relationship with God. That is why Jesus, who is God, came to earth as a man. Jesus never sinned. He died on the Cross to take the punishment we deserved, so that we wouldn’t have to be punished for our sins. He loves us so much that He offered to be punished instead of us. This repairs the relationship between sinners and God. Jesus rose again from the dead and He will reign as King for all eternity!
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
If you are sorry for your sins, and believe in the saving work of Christ, then you can spend eternity with Jesus also! To learn more about salvation, please read Good News.
