Taylor Jamieson-Datzkiw, a medical student at the University of Ottawa, recently won a prize for her work with viruses. Her goal is to create viruses capable of neutralizing aggressive forms of breast and ovarian cancers. The genetically manipulated viruses leave healthy cells unharmed as they specifically target cancer cells, which aren’t good at fighting off viral infection.
Jamieson-Datzkiw’s work is a good example of using organisms like viruses—that often cause disease in a cursed world—to combat other effects of the curse, like cancer. We can praise the Creator for giving us ingenuity to steward his creation—even the fallen aspects of it.
