Tongues That Speak Truth!

Tongues That Speak Truth

Solomon wrote more proverbs on the tongue and the words we speak with it than any other topic. In fact, in one proverb, he lists seven things the Lord hates and three of those seven deal with the tongue (Proverbs 6:16–19). Because God is true, He hates lying (Proverbs 6:17). He wants us to be truthful (Psalm 51:6) and is delighted when we speak truth (Proverbs 12:22).

Those who are foolish speak untruths and make up stories (Proverbs 14:7). And foolishly speaking untruths about others can cause them great harm (Proverbs 15:4). We need to be careful to think about what we say before we say it because we can’t take back our words once we’ve said them (Proverbs 16:23)!

As His children, we can ask God to help us to use our tongues in wise ways. Those who are on the wise path speak truth in every area!

Before you speak, ask yourself: Is what I’m saying true?
