Adam didn’t name every animal in the garden of Eden. He only named the kinds of animals. (Kinds are animals that usually look similar and can parent baby animals.) That means he named the dog kind. But dog breeds, like the dachshund, golden retriever, or beagle, did not exist yet.
Verse to Read: Genesis 2:20
We can’t know for sure what names Adam gave the animals because we don’t know what language he spoke. Also, that language may have been lost when God confused the languages at the tower of Babel.
On top of that, many of the animal names we use today were invented thousands of years after creation. For example, the word rhinoceros showed up in the 1300s, but that doesn’t mean the rhinoceros kind wasn’t created on day six of creation. We just don’t know what Adam named it.
The same God who gave Adam the wisdom and creativity to name the animals gives you creativity today to draw pictures, sing songs, or make bracelets. We should always use our creativity in ways that please God.
All the breeds of animals we find today came from the original animal kinds that God made.
Think of another animal kind, such as the cat kind. How many members of that kind can you name (for example, lions and panthers)?
In what ways do you use the creativity that God gave you?
