African elephants are super strong and can carry the most weight of any land mammal. They can support up to 19,000 pounds—the weight of 130 adult humans.
The superstars of the diving world, these whales dive deep thanks to special features like the ability to store oxygen (the air we breathe). A group of researchers timed one whale’s record-breaking dive at 3 hours and 42 minutes.
Fleas can launch themselves 40–160 times the length of their bodies. If a six-foot-tall person could leap like a flea, they could jump over the Statue of Liberty!
These ants have the power of speed. In fact, they’re the speediest ants on earth. Even with short legs, they can run across the desert at 2.8 feet per second—at that rate, a human could run 400 miles per hour! (The fastest a human has ever run was just under 28 miles per hour.) It’s likely these ants run fast so they don’t get scorched in the harsh desert.
