A popular saying goes like this: “Don’t miss the forest for the trees.” It means that people overlook the bigger truth while focusing on a smaller one. They see the details, but they miss the main point.
That’s what can happen when it comes to evidence of the Creator’s design in the universe. We can see that everything is designed (it’s obvious!) but miss the more important truth.
Design can show us that there is a Creator, but we need to know our Creator—Jesus Christ, the Son of God!
Sure, the universe and life show much evidence of being designed. Eyes have incredible abilities, stars require a powerful energy source, flowers showcase marks of amazing handiwork. No one can look at our planet without seeing the brushstrokes of a genius mind at work. In fact, the Bible says every single one of us is without excuse if we deny that God is the Creator (Romans 1:20).
But we can’t stop there. The stars are declaring the glory of God for a reason (Psalm 19:1). It isn’t for us merely to gather facts about our Creator.
The point is for us to know our Creator—Jesus Christ, the Son of God! And we can know him because he reveals himself to us through his Word, the Bible.
From the Bible, we learn about the most amazing design of all—God’s plan to save us. You see, God made the first two humans to live in his perfect creation (Genesis 1–2). Sadly, when they disobeyed him, death and suffering came into the world (Genesis 3). But God wasn’t done. He had a plan to send his Son to save us from the penalty of our sins by dying the death we deserved on the cross. God tells us in the Bible that we must repent and receive Jesus as Savior to get this gift—eternal life with Jesus in heaven, rather than eternal punishment in hell.
Now that’s a master design worth seeing!
Buddy Davis here. The universe looks designed because it is. More important than seeing the design is knowing the Designer, Jesus Christ!
Let’s play a game. It’s simple: Spy with your eye some amazing creations of our powerful Creator who made the “seeing eye” for a purpose.
