- Cross Pattern
- Transparency sheets, 1 for every 3 children
- Bright colored tissue paper (in multiple colors),
- 65–70 1 1/2-x-1 1/2-in. squares per child
- Mini suction cups (with hooks), 1 per child
Tools and Basic Supplies
- Glue sticks
- Scissors
- 1/4-in. hole punch
Pre-Prep
- Photocopy the Cross Pattern onto transparency sheets, then cut out the crosses.
- Punch a hole approximately 3/4 in. below the top of each cross.
- Cut tissue paper into 1 1/2-in. squares.
Teaching Tie-In
Show the sample craft and say:
What shape do you see here? Take answers. Yes, a cross. What does a cross remind you of? Take answers, and remind them of God's great love for them.
Let's say today's Bible verse together. Do so, reciting Romans 5:8.
Let's make our cross to remind us of that great news.
Class Time Directions
- Take several pieces of tissue paper and crumple them up.
- Add glue stick to a section of the cross.
- Press pieces of crumpled tissue paper onto the glued section of the cross one at a time.
- Continue this process until the cross is completely covered.
- Use a mini suction cup to hang your lei cross in a window that gets plenty of sunlight.
