Dr. Danny Faulkner holds an MS in physics from Clemson University, an MA and a PhD in astronomy from Indiana University, and he taught at the University of South Carolina—Lancaster for over 26 years. He has published over 100 papers in various journals.
Danny works as a researcher, author, and speaker for Answers in Genesis. He also hosts Ark Encounter trips down to Red River Gorge (in eastern Kentucky), and Stargazer’s Nights (at the Johnson Observatory); he also hosts Astronomy Live programs, and “The Skies Proclaim His Handiwork” workshops at the Creation Museum.
I was born again at age six as the result of a vacation Bible school. However, I managed to drift away from the faith for much of the next nine years. My father was the pastor of a small church in the town I grew up in, and most people knew that. Consequently, I was shielded from many of the temptations that others likely experienced. When I began my sophomore year of high school, I met some other students who were living a much more vibrant Christian life in the public school. That hurt, because some of them had been Christians for only a short while. As a result, I rededicated my life to Christ.
I had always loved astronomy.
I had never given much thought about what I would do with my life, though I had always loved astronomy. Almost immediately after my rededication, I came to realize three things: that one could make a living doing astronomy, that I had the ability to do just that, and that I believed God had called me to do this. Around this time, I read The Bible and Modern Science, by Henry M. Morris. This was the first book of his that I’d read, and I’d eventually read many more. A year or two earlier, I had read two books that taught day-age and probably even theistic evolution. I realized that these books espoused a chronology that was a bit different from what I had understood the Bible to show, but I respected these men and thought that they were probably right. However, I quickly saw that what Henry Morris wrote made much more sense biblically, so I immediately became a young-earth creationist.
I am thankful for my college days at Bob Jones University. The science faculty there was firmly committed to biblical creation, and the education that I got there greatly prepared me for my life’s work. From there I did graduate work at Clemson and then Indiana University. As I was completing my PhD, I took a teaching job at the University of South Carolina—Lancaster (USCL), where I taught astronomy and physics. USCL was always very good to me, and I thrived there. Though not all my fellow faculty members or staff agreed with me on creation, they respected me for the job that I did in the classroom and in service to the university and community. I could not have worked for a finer group of people. The administration was always supportive as well. If I did not have the strong desire to work for Answers in Genesis, I easily could have spent the rest of my life there.
I enjoy working at Answers in Genesis. Since I’ve been here, I’ve had the time to research many topics that I couldn’t before. And the people here are wonderful too. I feel blessed in being able to use my abilities in a full-time capacity at a Christian ministry.
Danny enjoys running, hiking, spelunking, coin collecting, and Clemson football.
Danny and Lynette have been married since 1976. Lynette also serves as a volunteer for Answers in Genesis at the Creation Museum.
They have one grown son. Danny enjoys running, hiking, spelunking, coin collecting, and Clemson football. Danny’s favorite soda is Cheerwine, a cherry-flavored soft drink from North Carolina. Danny travels a lot and his faithful bear, Teddy, often accompanies him (and sometimes gets into mischief).
