Professor Andy McIntosh DSc, FIMA, CMath, FEI, CEng, FInstP, MIGEM, FRAeS has lectured and researched in Combustion and Thermodynamics for over 30 years. He is a visiting research professor at the University of Leeds, UK, and an adjunct professor at Mississippi State University, USA. He has published over 195 papers on aerodynamics, thermodynamics, combustion, biomimetics, and the bombardier beetle research, which has led to a patented spray device for applications of this technology to pharmaceuticals, fuel injectors, and fire extinguishers. He speaks widely in many countries on apologetics and the Christian faith, showing that true science is entirely consistent with a biblical view of origins.
The way the human voice works is a marvel of acoustic engineering. Each person’s voice reflects the way that the original sound is produced at the vocal cords.
Despite being publicly spoken against in 2006 by Professor Dawkins (see “Creation in the Classroom” and “Big Mistake”) (who is wrong on the thermodynamics in the article“Information and Entropy: Top-down or Bottom-up Development in Living Systems”), Andy’s work has progressed on the bombardier beetle. The glory goes to the Lord who caused the team to obtain the Times Higher Education 2010 Award for the Outstanding Contribution to Innovation and Technology for their beetle research. Andy's testimony is that because he put the Lord first the Lord blessed this research greatly.
Andy became a Christian in 1969 and is committed to a belief in the biblical creation account maintaining that Genesis is crucial to our understanding of the gospel. He has debated academics in a number of universities, and lectures and speaks on apologetics in many countries on the importance of origins and in particular against atheism. As an associate speaker for AiG for many years, he speaks in the UK and many countries abroad. He delights to present the scientific evidence for creation and passionately believes that there is no excuse for scientific minds not to accept the truth of creation.
Professor Andy McIntosh has a PhD in combustion theory from the aerodynamics department of what was then Cranfield Institute of Technology (now Cranfield University), a DSc in Applied Mathematics from the University of Wales, and worked for a number of years at the Royal Aircraft Establishment. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the Institute of Energy, the Institute of Physics, and the Royal Aeronautical Society. A chartered mathematician and engineer, and author of over 180 papers and articles, his research has been in combustion in fluids and solids. His work has also included investigations into the fundamental link between thermodynamics and information, and in latter years he has been involved in research in the area of biomimetics where the minute combustion chamber of the bombardier beetle has inspired a patented novel spray technology with applications to fuel injectors, pharmaceutical sprays, fire extinguishers, and aerosols. This research was awarded the 2010 Times Higher Educational award for the Outstanding Contribution to Innovation and Technology.
He is presently a visiting Research Professor in Thermodynamics and Combustion Theory at the University of Leeds, UK, and Adjunct Professor at Mississippi State University, USA.
Professor McIntosh’s career in mathematics and science has led him very much to the view that the world and the universe show powerful evidence of design. As a result, he is often asked both in the UK and abroad to speak on the subject of origins.
He is married with three children and six grandchildren.
