When we first opened the Fearfully & Wonderfully Made exhibit at the Creation Museum in September 2020, I said it was “the most powerful pro-life exhibit in the world.” This stunning display is the legacy of our beloved Dr. Dave Menton, who passed away in December 2021 and now celebrates life in eternity with his Lord and Savior.
The original exhibit was set up as a temporary structure in the lobby of Legacy Hall as our designers (inspired by Dr. Menton) had something much greater in mind for the permanent exhibit.
For years, I remember Dr. Menton saying he would love to see AiG craft a special exhibit on the placenta—this was his favorite human organ to share from a miraculous design perspective.
This month on October 9, we celebrated the grand opening of the new and upgraded Fearfully & Wonderfully Made exhibit at the Creation Museum. And this is even more spectacular than the previous display. So what differences are there compared to the temporary exhibit? Here are just a few:
There is no exhibit like this anywhere else in the world.
There is no exhibit like this anywhere else in the world. Yes, it truly is the most powerful pro-life exhibit in the world. Our scriptwriters also recognize that we live in a fallen world and included words of encouragement and teaching within the exhibit so people will know God is a forgiving God—a loving, merciful God of grace.
As people go through this beautiful exhibit, many emotions are evoked for many reasons, but all can utter words of praise as the psalmist did:
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance. (Psalm 139:13–16)

After coming around the corner from the deck three theater of the life-size Noah’s Ark, many guests’ jaws drop as they encounter a stunning new addition to our Flood Geology exhibit. Two massive fossils, both from Wyoming’s Fossil Lake portion of the multistate Green River Formation, display the effects of rapid, catastrophic burial in incredible detail. Together with a custom mural, it’s a striking upgrade that’s already a new favorite photo spot.
The tall plant fossil is a palm frond, and it’s huge—10 feet, 7 inches tall! This member of the fan palm species, Sabalites powelli (presumed extinct), is very similar to living palmettos and is one of the largest specimens ever extracted from this formation. The fish fossil is composed of five different fish species, incredibly preserved with no evidence of decay or scavenging. These are stunning specimens!
Accompanying signage provides background information on the formation where these fossils were found and shows how this location preserves overwhelming evidence for catastrophic burial of the type that occurred during and shortly after Noah’s flood, not for slow and gradual processes over millions of years.
It’s a sobering picture and a reminder to consider the gospel message that guests hear during the theater presentation.
The custom mural reminds guests that the floodwaters did more than just create rock layers and bury hapless creatures in the torrent. The primary purpose of this catastrophe was to judge sin by destroying the world of that time. To drive this message home, the mural depicts floodwaters crashing into a city as individuals flee. It’s a sobering picture and a reminder to consider the gospel message that guests hear during the theater presentation.
