Why a Carousel?

When we announced in 2007 that the Creation Museum would have zip lines (in fact, it was advertised as the best and biggest zip line course in the Midwest), we were mocked by secularists who wondered why the Creation Museum would have such an activity. Even some Christians couldn’t understand why we would include a fun zip line course at the Creation Museum. Even the media was perplexed, and I remember being asked, “Why do you have zip lines?” My answer was, “Because Christians can have fun too!”

Both the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter have incredible zip line adventure courses enjoyed by people of all ages. And all our zip line tours begin with some bright signs that capitalize on people’s fascination with God’s creation. They share some fun facts about the forests, lakes, and valleys the participants will be zipping over.

It’s to have family-friendly and God-honoring activities, where families can have fun and parents don’t have to worry about what their children will see and hear.

So it’s important to understand that the vision for the Ark and the Creation Museum is not just to have stunning teaching exhibits—though we certainly do! It’s to have family-friendly and God-honoring activities, where families can have fun and parents don’t have to worry about what their children will see and hear.

The Ark Encounter’s Ararat Ridge Zoo and the Eden Zoo at the Creation Museum are fun places for families to see and even touch some of God’s creatures as they learn about them from a biblical worldview. We also have state-of-the-art playgrounds for all ages and abilities at both attractions. Families love fun times together at these facilities.

Now we have opened a spectacular carousel (called Journey of the Animals) at the Ark Encounter, which is free with admission. People love carousels, but this one is truly unique. A number of special animals (including some extinct ones) are available to ride, including chalicotheres, sauropods, and pterodactyls. All of the animals represent “kinds” included in the Ark exhibits. Around the inside of the building, as people line up for the ride, are colorful signs with great teaching about each of the animal kinds represented on the carousel. So not only is this a super fun, unique, and spectacular carousel, but it’s also a fun teaching exhibit!

So think about all the fun things families can do at our two leading Christian-themed attractions. Not only can they spend hours looking at all the exhibits, but they can spend time with animals in our zoos (including the new children’s zoo), use our playground, ride the zip lines, ride on the carousel, have a VR “ride,” have a camel ride, and so much more! It’s wonderful that God has allowed us to build these attractions that many have called “the Christian alternative to Disney parks.”

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
