As the New Year approaches, you’re likely finishing up a devotional and looking for a new one to start 2023. Well, if you’d like a devotional resource that will root you in God’s Word this coming year and one that is filled with “meat,” not fluff, I encourage you to consider one of the seven devotionals, or devotional series, we offer in our online bookstore.
Many devotionals (especially those marketed toward women) are, sadly, very light on Scripture but heavy on personal stories and experiences (a lot of “fluff and stuff”). But the devotionals we should be consuming ought to be the opposite: deeply rooted in the abiding and unchanging truth of God’s Word. And that’s what you’ll find in all the devotionals below. Each one leans heavily into God’s Word, encouraging you with God’s truth and helping you know, believe, and defend his truth. And that’s exactly what each believer—man, woman, or child—needs in these dark and discouraging times!
At Answers Bookstore, find these “meaty” resources:
- Rooted: 100+ Devotions to Ground Women in the Word. This series of devotions from our Answers for Women conference, from speakers and musicians, will equip you with powerful truth from God’s Word. Each devotion provides a scriptural passage, insightful commentary, and application questions to cement the truths in your heart. In the middle of our cultural tsunamis, these encouragements from the Word will provide an anchor for your soul, enabling you to “contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3).
- The 10 Minute Bible Journey. Make 2023 the year you and your children grasp the “big picture” of Scripture. In just 10 minutes each day, you’ll journey through the Bible chronologically, seeing the big themes of Scripture, discovering how the Bible all connects together, and being equipped with apologetics along the way. This devotional is great to go through with all the children!
- My Comfort Is Jesus. This 365-day morning and evening devotional by my good friend Ray Comfort will encourage you when you get up in the morning and before you go to bed each night with teaching from God’s Word. It also features suggested Scripture readings to help you read through the whole Bible in a year.
- Answers Family Bible Devotional Books 1–5. Written by veteran missionaries Mike and Libby Wild (of The Wild Brothers video fame), this five book devotional series takes you through the Bible chronologically, much like these missionaries did when teaching and discipling an unreached people group in Southeast Asia. A wonderful study with your children or with unbelieving friends or family.
- Creation to Babel: A Commentary for Families. Yes, this new book of mine is a commentary, but it’s broken up into short sections and designed to be enjoyed by the whole family, making it a great “deep dive” devotional of Genesis chapters 1–11 (but really, I take you all over the Bible as we study those foundational chapters). This unique commentary, answering all the questions I’ve been asked over the years, is a great way to ground your family in biblical truth.
- Beginning: Family Worship in Genesis. If 2023 is the year you’d love to begin the spiritual discipline of family worship time, consider this comprehensive guide to studying Genesis during a daily worship time. Beginning is written by Dr. Joel R. Beeke, a pastor of 40 years who has spoken at our Answers for Pastors conferences.
- ABC Family Devotional. If your church uses our Answers Bible Curriculum, consider using our accompanying midweek devotional series to reinforce what you and your children are learning during your Bible lessons at church or during Sunday school.
I also have a bonus resource for you to use this new year: a free download of a bookmark that turns any Bible into a chronological Bible! Reading the Bible in chronological order is powerful and really helps you grasp the big picture of Scripture. I encourage you to download this free bookmark (or order copies for your family or church) and make 2023 the year you read through the Bible chronologically.
