This May Be One of the Most Important Books We Read on the Subject of Youth in Our Churches

The above was the headline in the Canadian Lutheran, described as “the award-winning magazine of the Lutheran Church–Canada. It is published nine times a year and features inspirational and educational articles.” The headline is referring to our book Already Gone. It was thrilling to see such a positive review in this Lutheran news source. The review, as printed on the web, began:
Judith Burns reviews the book Already Gone by Ken Ham (Master Books, 2009, http://www.answersingenesis.org/store/sku/10-1-412/)

One of the more challenging books I have read this year concerns one of our grand traditions—Sunday school. Already Gone: Why Your Kids Will Quit Church and What You Can Do To Stop It, by Ken Ham and Britt Beemer with Todd Hillard, asserts that two-thirds of youth in our churches will be gone from the pews by the time they hit 20.

Ham suggests that this exodus can be directly linked to our Sunday school practices. Initially there might be some resistance on our part as members of Lutheran Church–Canada to think our Sunday school programs might need reforming. But upon reading the book, I have to conclude, on the basis of Ham’s analysis, that the criticisms are valid even for us.

Devotion

I did in the morning as I was commanded

(Ezekiel 24:18) So I spoke unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

The best therapy for overcoming a great bereavement is to continue in the work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying, Ken
