More about the Creation/Evolution Debate

Creation Haters

There has been a lot of secular news articles recently about ID and the creation/evolution issue. I have included excerpts (and the link if you want to read the whole article—have your antacid ready though!) of an article from an Australian news source that shows how ignorant, emotional and illogical many of these anti-Christian reporters really are.

If you were to ask a group of experts to draw up a list of ‘what we are fighting for’ in the war against terrorism, the theory of evolution would be near the top. Recently I asked Peter Watson, author of Ideas: a History from Fire to Freud and perhaps the best-known historian of ideas now writing, for the most important idea of all time. He nominated Darwin’s work on natural selection. It explains an enormous amount about who we are, how we came to be here, and how we fit into our world. So it must have confused many to hear Nelson throw the Government’s weight behind a vacuous challenge to that theory, which he has suggested be taught in philosophy and religion classes. It’s as surprising as if the Health Minister had said sorcery-based cures would be available on Medicare, or the Minister for Defence had advocated bows and arrows as an alternative to tanks and machine guns. Intelligent design is a conspiracy by some fundamental Christians to undermine the theory of evolution. They believe that theory must be wrong because it contradicts the Bible’s view of creation. So Darwin must be discredited. But pure creationism, after more than a century of trying, has failed to do this. Therefore, intelligent design was invented in the late 1980s to infiltrate schools. Its proponents argue that because life is complex and we can’t explain everything about how it came about, it must have had a designer. The proponents do not say who that designer might be, claiming that intelligent design is not religious but scientific. As a scientific theory, they argue, it deserves to be taught alongside natural selection.

He then raves on about the supposed bad design of the Human eye—the usual claim of the terribly flawed inside out retina! He needs to view the DVD by Dr. David Menton who, as an anatomist who has studied the structure of the eye, explains the design of the eye showing this inside out retina is actually the BEST design possible! If you’ve never seen this DVD I encourage you to do so—Dave gives amazing information most people don’t know about. Here is another excerpt from this badly written article:

Moreover, the eye contains a big flaw: the retina is inside out. Why would an almighty designer do such a thing? “No intelligent designer,” Dennett points out, “would put such a clumsy arrangement in a camcorder, and this is just one of the hundreds of accidents frozen in evolutionary history that confirm the mindlessness of the historical process.

Church Leaders Supporting Evolution

In an AiG’s recent monthly newsletter written by our board chairman Don Landis, he mentioned the fact that there were clergy who were circulating a petition to support evolution. Here is an excerpt from a recent news item referring to that petition (and the link so you can read the whole article and another link in the excerpt below so you can read the petition).

The Bishop of Eastern Michigan, the Rt. Rev. Edwin M. Leidel, Jr., has commended to the clergy of his diocese an internet petition that supports the teaching of evolution in public schools. Approximately 7,200 clergy from across the United States, including 25 retired and 13 active Episcopal bishops, as well as a large number of clergy, have endorsed the “Open Letter Concerning Science and Religion.

Encouraging Feedback

We receive many encouraging emails each day at AiG, from time to time I like to include some of these for your encouragement also:

I want to thank God for Ken Ham for his ability to clearly explain the basics of what a Christian should know by starting at the begining of the Bible where I had heard many different theories. Since watching some of Ken Hams DVD’s I returned to the church, read the Bible, study other biblical related material and have a closer relationship with God which is what I’ve been groaning for in my heart for years. The tears in my eyes and the conviction in my heart tells me I’m heading in the right direction. THANK YOU and GOD BLESS Answers in Genesis. P.S. I’ve also been sharing my video’s with co-workers and mailing material to my pastor so he may be encouraged also. Chris.

Thanks for stopping by,

Ken
