How Can God’s Justice Make a Difference in My Life?

Biblical Authority Devotional: God’s Character, Part 14

by Chris Russell on May 28, 2010

The Scriptures tell us that God is just, and that brings a great sense of relief as we follow Him.

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face. (Psalm 89:14)
In God We Trust

In God We Trust takes a deeper look at living a truly God-focused life. You’ll learn not only to defend your faith according to the authority of God’s Word, but also to live it out in every part of life.

Today’s big question: how can God’s justice make a difference in my life?

In our generation, we have certainly seen many examples of judges who have given a verdict that has felt completely unjust. We’ve seen many cases in which famous people have seemed to be able to wiggle out of judgment just because they had resources that most people do not have. For example, in the Roe vs. Wade case, it felt like an incredible injustice was dealt to those precious young lives who had not yet been born.

Every time this type of injustice takes place, people grieve. Mankind longs for “justice.” And when that is denied, it can bring great unrest to an individual and even to a nation.

The Scriptures tell us that God is just, and that brings a great sense of relief as we follow Him. Sometimes, it appears on this earth that some people get away with certain evil actions. Yet, God is certainly the One who is capable of bringing absolute justice to every single situation, and God’s justice extends beyond the grave.

Our hearts actually long for such justice; yet, each of us has a huge responsibility to live each day of our lives in light of that justice. It’s easy for us to think about how others will have to give an account to God, but it’s not so easy to see our own responsibility and how that applies to us.

There’s no action that takes place in private. There’s no word that goes unrecorded. There is no thought that escapes His awareness. At some point, we will have to give an account of everything, and God will deal with everyone according to His perfect standard of justice (Hebrews 4:12-14).

God’s Word is the “guidebook” (i.e., standard) to help you to live your life in accordance with His decrees. As a matter of fact, the Scriptures are a part of His justice in that He gives us everything we need to know to live our life as we ought (2 Timothy 3:16-17). May we all use His Word as that “guidebook” for life.

Today’s big idea: knowing that there is a God’s that enacts justice can bring peace to our hearts and purity to our actions.”

What to pray: pray that God will help you to trust in His justice and that He will help you to live your life in light of that justice.
