“Your Word Is Truth”: Thinking Biblically

by Bryan Osborne on September 12, 2018

We live in a time of moral confusion and upheaval. Our culture’s views on various issues such as gender, marriage, the sanctity of life, and more are rapidly changing. How can Christians know what and how to think about these issues?

Jesus said, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17). If we want to discover the truth, we must look to God’s Word. It alone gives us an unchanging foundation for discerning right from wrong. It reveals what Jesus—our Creator, Redeemer, and Judge—thinks and how he would have us think and act.

Our culture’s view should carry little weight when compared with the infallible Word from our Creator. But, sadly, many in the church don’t view God’s Word as the authority. Instead, they allow sinful man to be the authority, patterning their thinking after our culture rather than God’s Word.

We need a generation of Christians who uphold God’s Word as the final authority in matters of faith and practice.

We need a generation of Christians who uphold God’s Word as the final authority in matters of faith and practice. That’s why our four-year Sunday school curriculum, Answers Bible Curriculum (ABC), has a big emphasis on biblical authority. We want Christians to start with God’s Word in all areas including morality, history, theology, and more. It’s only when we start with God’s Word that we will think accurately and be able to boldly and truthfully share our Creator’s truth and the gospel with this dying culture.
