Hi! Welcome back to the Kids Answers magazine blog, where we answer your big questions about God’s Word and God’s world.
Maya P. (age 10) asked,
“What causes bruises?”
Great question, Maya!
Bruising is a common outcome of injuries. You might get a bruise after a hit in the leg on the soccer field or a hard fall on some ice.
Bruises are usually nothing to worry about. They happen when blood leaks out of your blood vessels (the tubes that carry blood throughout your body) and pools under your skin. Your bruise will heal on its own after several days as your white blood cells break down and reabsorb the leaked blood. As your bruise heals, your skin’s color might slowly turn from red to purple, then yellow or green, and finally back to your normal color.
Before Adam and Eve disobeyed God, there were no injuries like bruises. Today, bruises are a sign that we live in a fallen world where sickness and injury sometimes happen. But God has promised that one day he will restore the world, and there will no longer be any death, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4)!
