Dire Wolf

The Dire Wolf was about the size of the Gray Wolf. They were common in North and South America and lived in a variety of habitats. The fossil evidence suggests that they hunted in packs like modern-day wolves. Thousands of Dire Wolf fossil remains have been found in the La Brea Tar Pits in California.
