How Did God Create Everything From Nothing?

Your Big Questions

on October 1, 2020

The Bible tells us that before there was everything—the stars, trees, animals, rocks, ocean, humans—there was nothing. Only God existed. Then, in just six days, he created the entire universe. But how did he create everything?

How Did God Create?

Genesis 1 records the phrase “God said” eight times. On each day of creation, that’s all it took—God’s words—for the world to appear. Imagine seeing the sun and moon, land and sea, animals and Adam (the first human) appear at God’s command!

Can you make anything happen when you tell your broccoli, “Turn into candy” or tell your toys, “Get on the shelf”? Of course not! Even your parents can’t do that. Only God can make something using nothing but his words. He’s that powerful!

When you pick a flower or splash in the ocean or pet an animal, remember—God is powerful enough to create the world, so you can be sure he can take care of you.
