Is Our DNA Full of Junk?

by Avery Foley on January 27, 2015

“I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well.” (Psalm 139:14)

Evolution teaches that humans evolved over millions of years from a single-celled organism. According to evolution, as life evolved from simple to complex, our DNA (the language-system inside our cells that builds us) collected so many evolutionary “leftovers” (from our ancestors) that perhaps as much as 98% of our DNA consists of useless junk. This story of man’s past doesn’t sound anything like our Scripture verse. The Bible tells us that God made us and that He made us “fearfully and wonderfully.” Since we are made specially by God, we know that DNA was designed to do what it does—and it does that well! In fact, scientists are just now beginning to study the “junk” DNA, and they are realizing that this DNA has a very important purpose! As more research is done, it will continue to confirm that DNA is not filled with “junk” but that it is well-designed. Rather than being full of leftover junk, DNA shows the powerful hand of the Creator who marvelously designed us.
