White-tailed deer are the most common member of the deer kind in North America. Today, there are more white-tailed deer in America than ever before—almost 30 million! God gave white-tailed deer the ability to survive in cold winter months.
Though they can run very fast, deer slow down to save on energy in the winter. They also grow a special coat of hair that keeps them dry in snow and rain. As they eat food like twigs, nuts, acorns, and corn from fields, their bodies turn all the food into fat. The extra weight they gain helps keep them warm. If you live close to open fields, see if you can spot any deer grazing in the morning and evening.
