Many cultures have legends of beasts we call dragons. The Australian aborigines have legends of a lake monster that sounds surprisingly like a plesiosaur. The Babylonians carved creatures that look like reptiles on four legs. Herodotus, an ancient Greek writer, described flying serpents he saw in Egypt that had bat-like wings.

What are these people describing? Well, they sound an awful lot like dinosaurs, marine reptiles, and pterosaurs! This makes sense in a biblical worldview. All these creatures were created during creation week, along with man. Man lived with dinosaurs, and dragon legends could be the memories of this time.

According to evolutionary ideas, dinosaurs went extinct around 65 million years ago. But we find evidence that dinosaurs lived much more recently than that!

Over twenty years ago, scientists discovered soft tissue in a dinosaur bone—red blood cells, collagen fibers, and blood vessels in a supposedly 65-million-year-old T. rex femur. We know soft tissue chemically breaks down—it can’t last millions of years!

This discovery doesn’t fit with the evolutionary story. But it does fit with the biblical account of history. Dinosaurs were buried during Noah’s flood just four thousand, three hundred years ago.

Did you know many secular scientists believe life’s raw ingredients arrived here on meteorites? One study suggested if these space rocks landed in ponds, the water might have dried up, allowing the building blocks of RNA to get together and form chains, and somehow from this life emerged.

But even if somehow you can get RNA to form, you don’t have life! Life requires information, and a random collection of molecular strings isn’t information. There has to be a language system—a code—to give the sequence meaning.

Life didn’t evolve in a pond. It was created by God from the very beginning.

The supposed age of the earth—four-and-a-half billion years ago—isn’t based on dating the earth. It’s based on dates from meteorites! Because of their evolutionary assumptions, evolutionists believe these meteorites are the same age as the earth, so if you date one, you have the age of the other.

But there’s a host of unprovable assumptions behind radiometric dating. And it’s been shown to give incorrect dates for rocks of known age. So why should we trust this method to give us accurate ages for other rocks?

We know the age of the earth because we have the perfect Word of God. The earth is just a few thousand years old.

All around the earth, we find scars from meteorite impacts. Some of these are relatively small; others are huge and would’ve been catastrophic. This evidence makes people wonder—is another impact coming?

These so-called messengers from space should remind us that life is fragile. But a meteorite won’t wipe out life. This world will end when Jesus returns in judgment—and nothing we can do will stop that! So, what’s the message? Repent!

We don’t know when our lives might end, but the correct response isn’t fear. It’s placing our faith and trust in Christ. It’s in him that we find salvation.

I remember a few years go headlines proclaiming, “proof of the big bang discovered!” I heard from concerned Christians, wondering how something that contradicts God’s Word could be proven. I told them just to wait, and sure enough, the “proof” wasn’t proof after all. It ended up just being space dust messing with results!

News reports shouldn’t shake our faith in God’s Word. Because the Bible is true, scientists’ findings will eventually confirm it, when more research is done. We can have faith that God’s Word is true from the very beginning.

The story of evolution usually goes like this: those who are the fittest, the toughest, or the strongest survive and reproduce—the others die out.

But according to other studies, “tameness” was supposedly selected for in human evolution, somehow resulting in genetic changes as we “domesticated” ourselves, ganging up against bullies to get ahead. In other words, the nice guy wins.

But this goes against the evolutionary story of survival of the fittest. This story is always changing because it’s just that—a story invented by humans about the past.

We need to start with God’s unchanging Word, not man’s word.

We all have experience with sickness, whether with a cold or flu or something serious like cancer or heart disease. Why is our world full of disease?

Well, Genesis tells us that God’s original creation was “very good.” But when sin came into the world so did death and suffering and now creation groans.

The bacteria and viruses that now make us sick were originally created very good. Most bacteria and even viruses still perform their original, “very good” functions. But some have “gone rogue” and instead cause sickness and disease.

Praise God, he promises to someday create a new heaven and a new earth free from the curse.

This is Ken Ham, a missionary with a passion for sharing God’s Word with the world.

Bird feeding is so popular across the UK that some scientists say it’s “driving rapid evolution.”

You see, scientists observed that birds in the UK have different shaped beaks from birds of the same species in the Netherlands, where bird feeding is much less popular. This beak shape seems to help these UK birds get seeds out of feeders more effectively. So birds that already had this variation were selected for in this bird feeder-heavy environment.

But this isn’t evolution! Birds remain birds! The information for this beak shape was already there; nothing new was created. This is rapid adaptation—not evolution!

Our tongues can sense five basic tastes: sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and savory. Well, one study suggests we can sense a sixth “taste”: tasteless water!

The study on mice found that sour taste receptors can also “taste” water and help mice figure out what’s water and what isn’t. These receptors also help tell the brain when the mouse’s thirst is quenched. This study hasn’t been replicated in humans yet, but it seems likely that it could be.

Over sixty percent of young people in our churches believe good people go to heaven. Of course, they get this idea not from the Bible, but from pop culture.

You see, Scripture teaches that we’re all sinners and our righteousness is filthy rags. We’re all descended from the first man, Adam, and we’ve all inherited his sin nature. On our own there’s nothing we can do about our sinful state.

But Jesus Christ took our penalty of death upon himself on the cross. He defeated sin and death, and he offers the free gift of eternal life to all who will believe. Good works won’t earn you heaven—salvation is found only in Christ.

For decades, Christianity has been declining in Europe. A few years ago, some researchers asked if morality was declining with the church. And their answer was “no, not really.”

But how did they define morality? You see, abortion and homosexuality were just labeled as “traditionally offensive,” while lying and stealing were labeled as “immoral.”

The researchers found many Europeans accept abortion and homosexuality but still think lying and stealing are wrong. So, yes, morality has declined as more people have rejected God’s Word as the basis for right and wrong. It just depends on if you’re using God’s definitions!

Peter writes that just as surely as there was a global judgment at the time of Noah, so another judgement is coming. But Jesus is delaying his judgment because he doesn’t want any to perish.

He also warns that they’ll try to lead Christians away into their error. Sadly, many of today’s scoffers are succeeding. They deny the history of God’s Word and lead many Christians to do the same.

Over the past few years, interest in spirituality and even the Bible has sky-rocketed among the younger generations. But these young people aren’t just interested in Christianity. Apparently, over half think astrology is science and use it to find their meaning and purpose.

In other words, they’re creating a religion of their own, with a little of this and a little of that, to fill the void of meaning and purpose that humanism created.

But vague spirituality doesn’t truly give us meaning—it’s just another way of worshipping self. True meaning and purpose are only found in submitting to the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

As Christians, why should we study God’s creation? Well, one scientist of the past put it this way. When we study God’s creation, we’re “thinking God’s thoughts after him.” The more we look at what God has made, the more we’re drawn to glorify him for his wisdom.

We can also get ideas for how to fight the effects of the curse in our world that is broken because of sin. Many of God’s designs hold the answers to cures for diseases or better technology and innovation.

But science won’t save us. Our hope shouldn’t be in technology or innovations but in Jesus Christ who solved our biggest problem—sin!

There was once a study that found people who reject evolution are still interested in science. The authors of the study were shocked. They didn’t expect those who rejected evolution to really care about science. Why? Because of this false idea that creationists “deny science.”

But nothing could be farther from the truth. Creationists love science!

Many people reject evolution on scientific and biblical grounds. They don’t do this because they deny science but because they recognize the major problems with evolution, and many choose to trust the eyewitness account of the Creator over man’s fallible interpretations.

As we’ve seen this week, science is knowledge about the natural world we gain from our five senses. But this definition has been hijacked so now many people think it’s the search for natural explanations. This excludes God and the supernatural completely.

But this isn’t a scientific idea. When people start with this idea that there must be natural explanations for everything, they’re appealing to naturalism—and that’s a religious starting point! They assume there’s no God or that he hasn’t intervened in the world.

You see, the creation/evolution battle isn’t about the evidence. It’s a battle of two foundations: God’s Word vs. man’s word.

People usually think about science as what we can learn about the natural world with the scientific method. But there are two kinds of science.

Observational science fits our definition of science very well. It’s done in the present and is directly testable, observable, and repeatable.

But historical science is very different. It deals with the past, so it isn’t directly testable, observable, or repeatable. You can’t practice the scientific method on the past! So your worldview determines how you’ll interpret that evidence.

With creation/evolution, the problem isn’t the evidence—it’s the interpretation of the evidence in relation to the past.

The most basic definition of “science” is “knowledge.” It’s usually defined as the knowledge we gain through the scientific method or using our five senses.

Now many people claim there’s a “war on science” in the West. When asked for examples, they’ll point to a rejection of evolution or man-made climate change. Denying or even questioning these things is considered a wholesale dismissal of all scientific knowledge.

This is a ridiculous claim. Those who reject evolution or man-made catastrophic climate change don’t reject science. What they do reject is a worldview-based interpretation that is imposed on the evidence.

Some Christians say the days of creation are millions of years each. But this doesn’t work as the days of creation are in a different order than the evolutionary timeline.

For example, God created plants on day three. God then created the sun, moon, and stars on day four. If these days are millions of years each, then how did the plants survive for millions of years without the sun?

If we take Genesis as history, there’s no problem. The plants only had to survive overnight before God created the sun. Instead of trying to fit man’s ideas into the text, we need to start with God’s Word and allow it to be the authority.

One study of rocks from my homeland of Australia argues that algae were necessary for the evolution of almost everything. They claim that 650 million years ago the conditions were perfect for algae to bloom. This bloom allowed complex life forms to arise, eventually giving rise to humans. So, here we have algae to thank for our existence!

Of course, they don’t explain where all the information came from to form complex life! There’s actually no known scientific process that can create the brand-new information necessary for evolution.

So, no, we don’t thank algae for our existence. We have the Creator God of the Bible to thank!

A few months ago the media announced the nation of Canada would hit a milestone this summer—doctors would kill their one hundred thousandth patient through their medical assistance in dying program. Canada now euthanizes more people than dogs!

Human life is increasingly being treated across the West as of less value than a dog. But, as Christians, we must uphold the sanctity of every human life. We’re all made in God’s image, and we don’t have the authority to decide who lives and who dies.

Yes, because of sin we’ll all die but Jesus came and died in our place so we could have eternal life with him.

In our culture today, the unborn, disabled, elderly, or terminally ill are increasingly seen as burdens we must bear. For example, one article commenting on anti-aging research described people living to older ages as creating a “‘care home world’ full of decrepit people.”

But this isn’t how the Bible views people! We are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. We have value and purpose because we’re made in God’s image, not because of our quality of life or what we contribute to society.

God sent his Son to give his life for us, that we might receive salvation. That’s how much value we have in God’s eyes!
