The works of Charles Spurgeon have inspired millions of Christians around the world for over a hundred years. His wisdom and insight into God’s Word and world have helped others discover the richness of Scripture. Answers in Genesis is pleased to present the text of a large collection of sermons from this 19th century “Prince of Preachers.”
God has made many covenants at various times, and none of these covenants has he ever broken.
I think Naomi was greatly cheered by hearing this declaration from Ruth, especially the last part of it: “Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.”
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you” so as to occupy your whole being.
Before you can make an impression on another person’s heart, you must have an impression made on your own soul.
In order to meet our cases, the great work of God in us must be a spiritual thing.
If affliction has been profitable in the past, let us rest assured that it will be so in the future.
I can believe in the conversion of the Jews when I hear Jehovah’s challenge, “Is there anything too hard for me?”
If you get your message of mercy directly from Christ, you will have truth in its personality: living, acting, for he is “the way, the truth, and the life.”
With regard to the doctrines which you believe, I beseech you, do not know anything except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
We imagine that God has forgotten us, but if we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord gives an answer to us similar to what he gave to sorrowful Zion.
Christ says much in praise of faith because faith says much in praise of Christ; faith is used as a means of blessing, because it gives all the glory to God.
There are some of you who think yourselves very intelligent, and wise, and thoughtful, and therefore you refuse to receive God’s Word.
I have often rejoiced that God’s omniscience has enabled him to find grace in me which I could not see.
It is impossible for you to have fellowship with Christ unless you are obedient to his commands.
Saving faith does not always come suddenly. Faith begins with a preparedness to believe.
Why does God permit men to live when their souls are under deep depression and gloom?
“Today.” Today, — why not? Why should we not, "today", give ourselves to Christ?
All of us have a certain amount of ignorance and imperfection. If we knew all things, we would have no necessity for God's promise to show us great and mighty things.
There are still some who, like Paul, are born to God “out of due time.” They are truly born again, regenerated, converted, at a most unlikely time.
Are you trusting the living God? Are you relying on him as he is revealed in Jesus Christ his Son, the sin-atoning Saviour? If you are, you are his people.
There is a change spoken of: “but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
Does your conscience shut you out of the Church today? Remember, Christ shut himself out, too. He was “despised and rejected by men.”
Paul wrote, “Some are fallen asleep.” All the witnesses who saw Christ personally have fallen asleep long ago. Among ourselves, it is also true that "some have fallen asleep."
If you and I are to see the glories of Christ, it is necessary that we also should be awake, and that is more than can be said of all of us.
These sermons from Charles Spurgeon are a series that is for reference and not necessarily a position of Answers in Genesis. Spurgeon did not entirely agree with six days of creation and dives into subjects that are beyond the AiG focus (e.g., Calvinism vs. Arminianism, modes of baptism, and so on).
