The need for boldness to 'teach in the name of Jesus' everywhere.

on

This is Tony again. I went to visit the NEA Ex-Gay Educators Caucus and gave them a stack of our “Gay Marriage” booklets as well as some DVDs. Praise the Lord that they are here and giving folks the message that you can ‘come out’ of the homosexual lifestyle. It was interesting to note that they are not a ‘religious’ organization though. They give out materials and just their very presence here is a great witness that people can change and that people engaged in homosexuality are not ‘born that way’. However, they believe that they must remain religiously neutral in their apologetic for why they are ex-gay in order to maintain their presence at the NEA convention. Contrary to that philosophy, the Creation Science Educators Caucus (the booth we are supporting with thousands of free books and DVDs) is explicitly Bible based.

We are unashamedly Christian and pre-suppositional in our defense of the faith and creationism. The difference can be seen in our literature and banner. Because they feel they cannot be religious there is no reference to Sin or the Bible or Genesis as the foundation for marriage and God’s design for male/female relationships. But as you can see our banner answers the question, “Who decides what marriage should be?” with “Genesis is literal history.” And then quotes Jesus “God made them Male and Female”. We believe that even in a secular environment we must use God’s Word to present the truth of the Bible, that it can be trusted. Every year we teach creationism “in the name of Jesus” here at the NEA and are not merely promoting intelligent design. And for ten years the Lord has sustained us, against all odds. God is powerfully sovereign and has been pleased to uphold this outreach in the midst of darkness.

In a similar way, I have personally encouraged Christians teachers here at the NEA to teach “in the name of Jesus” even though the reigning authorities may forbid it (like the Pharisees in Act 4:18 “They commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus”). One lady teacher was very encouraged with the admonishment and encouragement to respond like the Apostles did in verse 19 “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” God has sovereignly sustained this booth for the last ten years and He is able to sustain any teacher who obeys Him by teaching in Jesus’ name. Please join me in praying for the Christians in the public school system for boldness and obedience.
