Gay marriage booklet deemed 'offensive' - sent to the 'back of the bus'

Please praise the Lord with me that He is getting the truth of God’s Word as it applies to creation, marriage, racism, etc. out to thousands of public school teachers. As I was away from the booth for a short time (taking some volunteers to the airport), a representative from the NEA Expo came to the booth with two other officials. They stated that someone had complained about our “Gay Marriage” booklets, that they were ‘offensive’. The officials asked that the booklets be moved to the back of the book tables so that they could not be easily seen by people walking by the booth. By the time I came back to the booth, the expo was essentially closed and so I will have to talk with these authorities tomorrow morning. Please pray that we would follow God’s perfect will in this strategic situation.

To me, it is quite ironic that in a sea of people pushing ‘tolerance’ and promoting the ‘marketplace of ideas’ and celebrating ‘diversity’ that some intolerant person would be offended at our booklet that is clearly bringing diversity into this arena. It seems that essentially some would like to censor our free speech and deprive us of our voice. The parallel to Rosa Parks being sent to the ‘back of the bus’ is striking. Here our little ‘soldiers’ (what we affectionately call our booklets and DVDs we hand out) are being told to ‘go to the back of the bus’. I believe that Christians have acquiesced to the humanists’ unlawful demands for too long. The NEA Creation Science Educators’ Caucus is an official, lawful caucus that is promoting truth and giving an alternative viewpoint of origins to the NEA Expo attendees. I believe that through a slow steady stream of incremental compromises Christians have lost the culture. Today the world demands we quiet our voice on gay marriage, tomorrow it may demand we stop teaching Creation entirely, but for now the Constitution of America provides us with the freedom of speech and more importantly God has commanded that we teach all nations the whole counsel of God.

There is such a thing as an unlawful order. In general, the Bible commands Christians in Romans 13 to submit to the governing authorities. But there are two instances when we must respectfully say, “We must obey God rather than men.” 1) If the reigning authority tells us to do something God has forbidden and 2) If the governing authority tells us to not do something God has told us to do. Acts 5:28 “We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name... Acts 5:29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.” Please pray that we would have the strength and wisdom of the Lord to stand up for truth and speak it in love. Please thank the Lord for providing this outreach to glorify His name.
