Miley Cyrus—But Which Ark Is She Rejecting?

by Ken Ham

Miley Cyrus is a popular singer and actress who rose to fame and fortune after her role in the television series Hannah Montana. She became a teen idol because of that role. But what parent would want their child looking up to someone like this today who now as an adult shakes her fist at God and promotes sexual perversion?

Recently, Cyrus posed nude for Paper magazine. (By the way, the origin of clothing is in Genesis when God gave clothes because of our sin—the first blood sacrifice as a covering—a picture of what was to come in Jesus Christ who would die for our sin; see Genesis 3:21.). Now, I will not direct people to that pagan magazine by linking to it, but many news sources carried quotes from the interview she did with this magazine.

On Fox News we read (please note that this news source does display the cover of Paper magazine, which may offend some people),

The article touches on what Cyrus thinks of people who believe Noah’s Ark was a real vessel, “That’s [expletive] insane,” she told the magazine. “We’ve outgrown that fairy tale, like we’ve outgrown [expletive] Santa and the tooth fairy.”

The same expletive was used a number of times in the interview. As you read what she reportedly said, it becomes very obvious that it’s not just the biblical accounts of the Ark and Flood in Genesis she is dismissing, but she is rejecting our Ark of salvation—Jesus Christ. Really, Noah’s Ark is a picture of salvation. As Noah and his family went through a door to be saved, so we need to go through a door to be saved from sin and its eternal effects of separation from God. God’s Son became a man (a perfect man—the God-man) to die on a cross and be raised from the dead to pay the penalty for our sin of rebellion against our Holy Creator. And to each one of us, including to Miley Cyrus, Jesus says,

I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. (John 10:9)

Her rebellion against God is clear, as Fox News reports:

She praises her parents throughout the interview, yet Cyrus slams their politics calling them “conservative-[expletive] [expletive].”

Now, the Fox News article also states,

[Miley Cyrus] says she is the least judgmental person ever, yet she has some harsh words for Christian fundamentalists and her parents… [she] “maintains a particular contempt for fundamentalist lawmakers who rally against this sort of progressive, potentially life-saving changes [for the LGBT] community.” The pop star told the mag, “Those people [shouldn’t] get to make our laws.”

Of course what she means is that she wants to make her own “laws”! And she uses her “laws” and beliefs to judge Christians as her aggressive judgmental attitude toward Christians is so apparent, though in reality it is really about her attitude toward God and His Word.

I do not know what is meant by “life-saving changes,” but of course we would be for life-saving changes such as providing medical care and preventing abuse, but not legislation that would condone sinful behavior.

The article goes on to state,

Sexually, Cyrus said she is “down with” anything. She views her sexuality and even her gender identity as fluid. “I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that’s legal, I’m down with. Yo, I’m down with any adult—anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me,” she said. “I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.”

Question for her: Why not involve an animal? On what basis does she decide that? Besides, if there’s no God and she’s just a result of evolution, then she is merely an animal anyway. And those she interacts with sexually are just animals—so why not any animals? In other words, she has decided to draw a line for some reason—but what reason? It’s actually because in her heart she knows God exists (Romans 1), she knows she is different from the animals as she is made in God’s image (Genesis 1)—and she has a conscience (as seared as it is because of her sinful rebellion) because the law is written on our hearts (Romans 2).

Question for her: Why only those over the age of 18? On what basis did she decide that? If there’s no God, why have any age restriction? On what basis would she argue against pedophilia? Why not do whatever anyone wants to do?

Warning: Where Miley Cyrus is now in her thinking is where our culture is heading as more and more people abandon Christian morality based on the Bible and decide to make their own rules/laws. Yes, the culture is becoming like that described in the book of Judges.

In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. (Judges 21:25)

And it won’t stop where Miley Cyrus is currently. Romans 1 gives a picture of what will happen:

. . . because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:21–32)

And a final warning for all to heed: Romans 1:18 says such people will “suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” Those who rebel against God’s laws cannot stand those people who stand on the absolute authority of the Word of God. It’s a clash of worldviews. Because of our sin nature, those who reject God and His Word will increasingly look on Christians as the enemy. We are seeing just that today in our culture. Those who want to do “what is right in their own eyes” don’t want freedom of religion; they are increasingly demanding that Christians accept what they do as okay or Christians shouldn’t be allowed to have freedom in the culture.

That’s why we are building a life-size Ark. To remind this culture of the truth of God’s Word and the message of salvation in Jesus Christ, our Ark of salvation. I do pray that Miley Cyrus will repent of her rebellion against the living “Ark” (Jesus Christ) and go through that door to be saved. I pray even Miley Cyrus might come to the Ark Encounter one day and have an encounter with Noah’s Ark, an encounter with God’s Word, and most of all, an encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. You can keep up with this project in Northern Kentucky yourself at ArkEncounter.com.

The message God gave to Israel is also a message for Miley Cyrus and all who reject Him:

I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! (Ezekiel 33:11)

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
