As reported in the liberal news and commentary website Huffington Post, “Senate Democrats are expediting legislation that would override the Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby case and compel for-profit employers to cover the full range of contraception for their employees, as required by the Affordable Care Act.”
First, some of what they call “contraception” actually prevents implantation of a fertilized egg and thus aborts the fertilized egg—killing an unborn child. This proposed legislation from Senate Democrats is an attempt to force the secularists’ morality (or lack thereof) on Christians.
Second, this is another clear example of the ever-increasing intolerance of those who support biblical Christianity. Because the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision didn’t favor the secularist worldview and the Court won’t force Hobby Lobby to offer drugs to employees that would kill children in their mother’s wombs, those who oppose the Christian worldview won’t tolerate the Court’s ruling. Often the very secularists who loudly proclaim tolerance are some of the most intolerant of them all—they are aggressively intolerant of Christianity in the culture.
I wish there were more people like the Green family of Hobby Lobby who take a bold and unashamed stand for Jesus Christ. And while the Supreme Court’s decision is encouraging (as I stated in my previous post titled “Is Religious Freedom Under Attack in the USA?”), this nation will continue its downward spiral if churches increasingly compromise God’s Word with man’s fallible and ever-changing opinions, rather than standing on the authority of God’s Word, proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, and giving a defense for the hope that is within us (1 Peter 3:15). Jesus stated, “He who is not with Me is against Me” (Matthew 12:30)—there is no neutral ground, as one is either for or against Christ.
It is simply not enough for Christians to change the laws; people’s hearts must be changed.
I urge you to pray for the state of the church in America and other nations, that many more churches would take a bold stand on the authority of God’s Word, give answers to the attacks of the day from the secularists, and proclaim the solution for this nation’s downward spiral: the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
