Being not ashamed of the gospel of Christ in the midst of one of the nation's most secular and liberal organizations
Every year for the last 14 years, Answers in Genesis has had the privilege of supporting the National Education Association (NEA) Creation Science Educators’ Caucus at their annual convention where over 15,000 of the nation’s public school teachers and administrators gather. Over the years, AiG has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars of resources to be given away freely to the nation's public school teachers. This year's theme was “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). That passage of Scripture was unabashedly blasted on our 20 ft. banner over the thousands of DVDs, books, magazines, and booklets that our volunteers freely offered to all who passed by.
As you might expect from being in the middle of the NEA’s convention—whose other booths include such liberal groups such as the NEA Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Caucus—we encountered some animated opposition. However, over the last few years—to our surprise and to the glory of God—we've had more positive responses to our materials and message than negative. This year, we handed out two main resources as a package: The Journey through the Creation Museum DVD and The Last Adam DVD, which when taken together provide a very thorough gospel presentation—starting with a literal six-day creation, walking through the Seven C’s of History, and concluding with a power salvation message.
At the end of the conference, a rather upset science teacher from California came to our booth to demand that we remove all our materials from the booth. This NEA delegate apparently has created a new “Science Educators Caucus” with one of its main goals being to shut down our Creation Science Educators’ Caucus outreach. Of course, he has no legal right or administrative authority to do such a thing, but he stopped by to voice his demands nonetheless. At one point during the animated, yet cordial exchange, the conversation moved into the scientific feasibility of neo-Darwinian evolution. Once our experts challenged him with specific questions such as, “Name one natural process or mechanism that has been shown to increase information in the genome.” He then became quite discomforted and started to realize that we were not the ignorant, backwards people he at first thought. It was interesting, though not surprising, to see how this fervent evolutionist could not provide a shred of operational science to support his philosophical, presuppositional bias and belief in the lie of evolution. Please pray that God would continue to open the door for and bless this incredible opportunity we have to share the creation/gospel message with thousands of school teachers freely every year.
Here are some photographs from this year’s NEA Convention:
Manifested, that He might destroyThanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
(1 John 3:8) He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
The strategies, plans, and works of our enemy—the devil—are all to kill and destroy us, but our Lord Jesus Christ came to disintegrate or dismantle them all.
